When to Join
You can join the choir at any time, but we recommend joining at the start of a school term. There is no audition.
How to Join
We suggest you come along to one of our regular Friday morning practice sessions and sing with us, You can then decide if we are the right choir for you. It would help if you
What Does it Cost?
The Choir is a not-for-profit association and currently receives no external funding. As a not-for-profit, we receive a discount on our hall hire from the City of Canada Bay. The fees paid by Choir members cover expenses such as hall hire, insurance, choir director and music scores. There is no fee payable for the first session that someone attends. The fee for a set of 10 sessions is $140 paid in advance. Alternatively, the fee for one session is $20, paid at the time. The fee for students and people under 25 is $10 per session. Contact
What Do We Expect from You?
We do expect you to be able to sing in tune and keep to the rhythm of the piece. It is very rare for a person to be tone deaf but if you have any doubts about your ability to sing, you could consult the choir director.
We do expect you to attend a reasonable number of practice sessions and to learn your songs in your own time. This is particularly important when we are coming up to a performance. What is "reasonable", of course, depends on how hard the music is and how good a singer you are.
We do expect you to understand choir etiquette. With the most important rules being only one person speaks at a time, pay attention to the person who is talking and never put-down another choir member.
We don't expect you to stand all the session; but you can usually sing better when standing.
We don't expect you to be able to read music when you begin. But you will enjoy it more if you learn some basic skills. Sydney Community College offers a course entitled Music Skills Essentials.
Our Choir Name
CantoLuce is pronounced: KAN-tohLOO-cheh and means "We sing in the Light". Canto is a Latin verb meaning "I sing", derived from cantare. Luce in Latin is from the noun lux, meaning "in the light". Our formal name is A Daytime Gig, but we use Canto Luce as our singing name.

The Crescendo Chorus Parkinson’s Choir at the Mosman Uniting Church
The Crescendo Chorus is an inclusive singing group geared towards people living with Parkinson’s and their partners and carers, but welcoming anyone who would like to join us! We combine voice exercises designed to help with breathing, vocal strength and articulation, with singing a large eclectic repertoire of songs. An important part of each session is the break, where members chat and share information over a cuppa and biscuits. The fee is low, and new members are welcome.
Though not primarily a performance-oriented choir, the Crescendo Chorus have sung on two occasions for residents at Montana Aged Care facility in Mosman. We would welcome further opportunities to perform in the community.
Choir Director is Chrissie Shaw, and we meet on Thursdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm, at the Mosman Uniting Church, cnr Beaumont and Cowles Roads, Mosman.
Contact Chrissie by phone: 0407 079 748, or email:
